Plan introduction (Ice SUP – Sea of Okhotsk)
This is a tour to enjoy drift ice SUP in the Sea of Okhotsk, located in the northeastern part of Hokkaido.
The Sea of Okhotsk in winter, when it is extremely cold, offers a mysterious sight of floating ice floes every year.
Hokkaido is also the southernmost spot in the northern hemisphere where drift ice appears, so it’s one spot you can’t miss when you are visiting Hokkaido in winter!
They come south from off the coast of the Siberian continent and fill about 80% of the Sea of Okhotsk, giving us a sense of the grand scale of nature.
They can be seen during the months of January to March, with a particularly high chance of being observed in February.
This tour, which takes you on a SUP ride through the Sea of Okhotsk where drift ice floats, is a unique activity experience in Hokkaido.
From the end of February to the end of March is the best time to enjoy the drift ice SUP, and if you’re lucky, you may even see wildlife such as Steller’s sea eagles and largha seals, which are natural treasures.
You may have a strong image of SUP as an activity to be enjoyed in the tropical sea, but the drift ice SUP cruising will definitely be a time to fully enjoy the extraordinary.
You will be wearing a dry suit, so you will be well prepared for the cold.
Please join us to create unforgettable memories of your trip to Hokkaido!
