Plan Introduction (World Heritage Shiretoko 1 day Tour)
This is a luxury plan that allows you to fully enjoy the two most popular tours in Shiretoko over the course of one day.
What is Shiretoko like?
For those of you who are wondering, let me first introduce the Shiretoko area.
Shiretoko is located at the northeasternmost tip of Hokkaido, straddling the towns of Shari and Rausu.
The Shiretoko Peninsula juts out long and narrow into the Sea of Okhotsk.
In winter, it is the southernmost point in the northern hemisphere where drift ice comes in contact with the shore.
In addition to the rich nature of the Shiretoko mountain range, which consists of five mountains, and the Shiretoko Five Lakes, the area is home to a wide variety of creatures, including dolphins, whales, and seals in the sea, white-tailed and Steller’s sea eagles in the sky, brown bears and various insects on land, and so on.
It is a spot that is attracting attention not only from Japan but also from around the world, so much so that it was registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2005.
This plan allows you to enjoy Shiretoko.
In the morning, you will walk through the dynamic nature of the Shiretoko area, including virgin forests and cliffs.
You can enjoy the precious scenery that has remained almost unchanged since prehistoric times because it has been untouched by humans!
Along the way, you will visit cliffs, strange rock formations, Zobana (Elephant’s Nose), and “Yunohana Falls,” which cascades down from a precipitous cliff more than 100 meters high.
Come and feel the natural beauty of Shiretoko as it really is!
If you are lucky, you may even see some wildlife.
After a lunch break, in the afternoon we will take you to the Kamuiwakka Yu Falls, one of Shiretoko’s unexplored wonders.
One of the most unusual waterfalls in Shiretoko is the Kamuiwakka Yu Falls.
What is unusual about this Kamuiwakka Yu Falls is that, as the word “hot spring (Yu)” in its name implies, it is a waterfall with hot spring water mixed in!
You’ll get to experience climbing while bathing in hot springs!
The temperature of the waterfall is around 30 degrees Celsius, so the water is not that hot, but the waterfall basin downstream is truly a natural open-air bath!
Aside from the majesty of the scenery, the rare experience of climbing up a hot spring waterfall is sure to be a memorable part of your trip.
This is a very satisfying plan that will take your trip to the next level with your family, couple, or friends.
If you come to Hokkaido for sightseeing, be sure to experience the natural beauty of Shiretoko up close and personal!
The wilderness walk and Kamuiwakka shower climbing experience described in this plan are also available separately as a half-day (3 hours) plan to enjoy either of them.
I have time for a half-day tour…! If so, please take a look at this page as well.
Tour guides are not fluent English speakers but they will try to communicate with you at their best.
So please be patient and enjoy communication with local Japanese!
Thank you for understanding.
