Yoichi Nikka Whisky

NIKKA whiskey, which has been seen by people all over Japan, is produced here in Yoichi. Masataka Taketsuru, who is known as the father of Japanese whiskey, chose Yoichi because the climate is similar to that of Scotland, the home of whiskey, and it is said to have the best environmental conditions for whiskey production.

Fukuhara Fishing Ground

The Fukuhara Fishing Ground is a group of buildings that belonged to the Fukuhara family, who lived in this area since the end of the Edo period and engaged in herring fishing, which was very popular in Otaru.
The site is very large, and you can understand how people lived and how active herring fishing was in those days.

Former Shimoyoichi Unjyoya

The former Shimoyoichi Unjyoya was the management base of the Matsumae Clan, which was established to trade with the Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido.
The Unjyoya was located in various places in Hokkaido, but this is the only historical building that still remains.
Inside the building, there are various exhibits that show what it was like in those days, making it a very attractive spot to learn about the relationship with the Ainu.

Shakotan Peninsula (Shimamui Coast, Cape Kamui)

Shimamui Coast, one of the 100 best beaches in Japan, and Cape Kamui, which means “God” in Ainu, are two of the most beautiful spots in this area.
Shimamui Coast offers a shocking view of the Shakotan blue sea, and Cape Kamui, which was once forbidden to women, has a solemn atmosphere.

Mikuni Underwater Observation Boat

This plan concludes with an underwater observation boat where you can enjoy Shakotan blue on a cruise.
You can actually go out to sea to enjoy Shakotan blue, and since you can see the bottom of the sea, you can even see sea-urchins living under the sea.
